Holy Week - Timeline

This timeline gives a very breif account of what was taking place during holy week (the week leading up to Easter).


Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey Sunday Palm Sunday
Jesus clears the temple Monday

Jesus' authority challenged in the temple

Jesus teaches in stories and confromts the Jewish leaders

Greeks (non-Jews) ask to see Jesus

Jesus teaches on the mount of Olives

Judas agrees to betray Jesus

Tuesday
The Bible says nothing about Wednesday. He probably remained in Bethany (just outside Jerusalem and where they were staying for the festival) with his disciples, or may have visited the temple again. Wednesday

Jesus shares a "last supper" (Passover meal in which Jesus instituted the Eucharist or Communion) with his disciples.

Jesus speaks to the disciples in the Upper Room.

Jesus prays in the garden of Gethsemane.

Jesus is betrayed and arrested.

Jesus is questioned by the Jewish authorities.

Thursday Maundy Thursday

Jesus is formally tried by the Sanhedrin (the Jewish Governement composed of the Priests) and the Roman Authorities.

Jesus is flogged and mocked.

The crowd reject Jesus.

Jesus is crucified.

Jesus is buried before the Sabbath (Saturday).

Friday Good Friday
Nothing happens. Saturday
Jesus rises from the dead. Sunday Easter Day
